Instagram's new update and some thoughts on Content Creation

Lately, my life is going through a lot of changes. Maybe it is how everyone enters the thirties or maybe it is the new Instagram feature where I can’t see the ‘number of likes’ a brand post receives. Indeed, they are impacting me in a similar manner. Marketeers crunched the day this new update came. I for one, had just launched a new company, UsherTwist (www.usherbae.com/ushertwist), that handles online Marketing for growing companies, when this new Instagram update arrived.




Now if I were to believe the ongoing news rush, there is a reason Instagram is stating for this update.

‘They genuinely care about the human psychology and don’t want people to feel the social pressure about the number of likes they get or see on another person’s post.’


Question to self and the other Marketing gurus “Then why can we still see the follower count?”


Here is my take on this update:

This could be one of the ways of Instagram to kill the business of ‘Like’ bots that young hackers are building and then biting into Instagram’s algorithm.Instagram Sponsored Ads will now mean more money for Instagram as the brand owners earlier could judge their post’s success through likes even though the metrics available were still Page Visitors, DM and Website Visits, now they will have to care about the Followers achieved through each promotion. That takes more time and more money! They might genuinely want to reestablish their stand in the society and say,( while they are a cutthroat business) they do care about the human emotions and in turn the environment.

Anyways, whatever it is, every time Instagram, Facebook or any other social platforms come up with changes, I as a content creator, wake up in panic mode. Lately, I have been reading, writing, creating and getting involved full time in the content space. I have 2 companies that focus on different aspects of content.

So for now, I am ushering into 2020 with my goals remaining the same: I will always be open for more work and I will always be looking to create something new in the content space. And I hope, I don’t wake but in panic mode tomorrow. Which the #everydaydigitalchanges can’t promise! :(
